Overview
Leaving Marrakech travelling into the Atlas Mountains to witness the stunning 360-foot (110-meter) highest waterfalls in North Africa.
They are located near the Moyen Atlas village of Tanaghmeilt, in the Provence of Azilal, 150km northeast of Marrakech. Enjoy the scenic drive past the olive groves and Berber countryside of the plains on the journey. The name ‘Ouzoud’ comes from ‘ olive ‘ in Berber referring to the nearby olive trees. When you arrive at the village of Ouzoud you ‘ll have some free time to explore the area on your own, or you can hire a local guide to take you around. Walk down steps to the base and explore the caves where water mills are used to grind wheat grain into flour. The bottom of the falls is accessible through a shaded path of olive trees. At the summit of the falls there are a dozen old small mills that are still in use.
You will also be able to watch Barbary apes in their natural habitat swinging from the olive branches.
You can have lunch at your leisure at one of the local cafes/restaurants on the shaded waterfall path serving delicious tagines next to the stream.
